Overnight Briefs

How to Choose an Overnight Diaper

Unlike regular adult diapers, overnight diapers are designed with enhanced features that make them a safer alternative to use throughout the night. Some factors to consider when choosing the right adult briefs for you include absorbency, wicking, backsheet, and size.

Absorbency

Overnight briefs can range in absorbency from super to maximum, with our most absorbent overnight brief being the ComfortAire PM. Keep in mind, it is not advised to leave adult diapers on a fully incontinent individual for the duration of the night as this can cause skin breakdown.

Wicking

Wicking is the process in which liquids that the diaper is exposed to are instantly absorbed into the polymer core to stay separated from the skin. The Dignity PM and Prevail Extended Use overnight briefs both contain an advanced acquisition layer to absorb fluids faster and more effectively.

Backsheet

The two most common types of backsheets are cloth-like and plastic. A clothlike backsheet is ideal for a person who is looking for breathability. These are especially recommended for people who are non-ambulatory, as it will help prevent skin breakdown. A plastic backsheet is recommended if you are trying to keep moisture from soaking through the mattress.

Wetness indicators are a useful feature on backsheets that help to determine when someone is wet, and are helpful in busy care centers.

Size

Size is one of the most important considerations when choosing an overnight brief. If you have a diaper that is incorrectly sized it will not prevent leaks as well as one that is the right size. There are waist measurements to help determine which brief to get, but a good rule-of-thumb is if you cannot fit your palm between the two tabs on the front of the diaper, it is too large. If you are using a small brief and it is still too large, try the Tranquility youth sized briefs.

One of the most important things to think about when choosing an overnight brief is size. Having a correctly sized diaper will prevent leaks and ensure comfort. Waist measurements are a good way to help determine your correct size, but if you do not have access to that, try putting your palm between the two tabs in front of the diaper. If you are not able to fit your palm there, then it is too large. If you cannot find an adult overnight brief that fits your waist, try Tranquility youth sized briefs.
